Tomiyama Taeko
Born in Kobe and spent part of her childhood in Dairen and Harbin in former Manchuria. In the 1950's, she produced work on the theme of the coal and ore mines of Kyushu.
In the 1970's she made prints inspired by the poetry of South Korean political prizoner and poet, Kim Chi Ha. She founded the one-woman studio, Hidane Kobo in 1976 and has been producing multi-media slide works in collaboration with Takahashi Yuji since then. In recent years, exhibitions of her work have been held in Korea, Germany and the U.S. Tomiyama Taeko passed away at her home in Tokyo on August 18, 2021 at age 99.
